Surfcasting is a throwing technique that separates the surfcaster from the ordinary fisherman on land, dock or boat. Extremely long rods are often used to lengthen the length of litter, while specialized two-handed casting techniques are used to cast bait or bait over the additional distances required in many cases to feed coastal fish. In these plaster casts, the whole body, not just the arms, is used to deliver the plaster. [2] In addition to standard two-handed throws, experienced surfcasters can also use the pendulum throw (derived from tournament throwing competitions) to reach an additional distance – over 700 feet in some cases. Currently, there are two different special regulations that permit the use of cast nets or cast nets for the removal of live gizzards and alewife at Arthur Lake in Butler County and Raystown Lake in Huntingdon County. The regulation limits the size of cast nets and casting nets to 10 feet radius (20 feet in diameter) with a mesh size of at least 3/8 of an inch. The Board issues between 700 and 800 permits to Raystown Lake each year. The Commission estimates that it will issue fewer than 100 permits for Lake Arthur each year. The holder of this authorization may use a cast net or a casting net with a radius not exceeding 10 feet (20 feet in diameter) and a mesh size of at least 3/8 of an inch. As mentioned earlier, a holder also has the right to take, catch, kill or possess a daily limit of 100 mages and maybird (species combined). It is illegal to use, capture, kill or possess more than the daily limit of gizzard and alewife under section 61.1 (in respect of Commonwealth internal waters) without the required permit. Other pieces of equipment are commonly used by surf fishermen and surfcasters to improve comfort, convenience and efficiency.

These include waders, which are used to wade through the waves in order to distance themselves from shore when throwing the bait. Full-length waders at chest height are the most popular for providing some level of protection from a surf that could easily flood wading boots up to the waist. In addition to the extra autonomy provided by wading pools from shore, wading birds provide better posture, foot and leg protection from sharp ground objects and biting/biting fish and shellfish, and protection from cold water temperatures. Most surf fishermen prefer built-in boot waders over storage foot models, eliminating the tendency of sand and rock to find their way between boots and bib shorts. In areas where the ground is made of slippery rocks or when fishing in mossy and slimy rocky walkways, studded boots or accessories are used to improve support and increase safety. To refer to the warning on the licence application itself: „The use of a cast net or casting net in other Commonwealth waters is a violation of the Fisheries and Boats Code and is punishable by a fine and may result in the loss of fishing privileges. Cast nets or casting nets must not exceed a radius of 10 feet or a diameter of 20 feet and must have a mesh size of at least 3/8 of an inch. The holder of a casting net or casting net permit may take, catch, kill or possess a daily limit of 100 shad and alewife alis (combined species). The holder of the authorization shall carry the authorization when he uses the net or possesses more than 50 gizzards or alewife (combined species). Instead of amending the various special provisions in section 65.24 for Raystown Lake and Lake Arthur to allow licence holders to remove, capture, kill or possess 100 gizzards and alewife (combined species) per day, the Commission passed new regulations on discarded nets and casting nets. The addition of section 63.48 will address the broader issue of the Commission`s licensing of these types of systems and eliminate the need for the various special arrangements for Raystown Lake and Lake Arthur in § 65.24. (e) It is illegal to use casting nets or casting nets to remove gizzards and alewife or to take, catch, kill or possess more than the daily limit of gizzard and alewife in accordance with section 61.1 without the required authorization.

An authorization to use nets or casting nets must be carried in such a way that it can be presented to an official authorized to apply the code. Common beach casting techniques used in the UK include joint aerial casting, above-ground casting and pendulum casting.
