After graduating from law school, you will study for at least 8-10 weeks to take the bar exam. While some people get it right the first time, others have to keep learning and doing it again. Once you pass the bar, you are ready to practice as a lawyer! There are many different types of law you could practice – and you could do so by joining another company, starting your own private practice, working in a government, or even joining a nonprofit that practices public interest law. You will find further advice and information about the possibilities available to you in the legal field in our legal career advice! If you`re considering the path to the lawyer, you`re probably wondering what exactly life is like in law school. That`s exactly why we created this article – to help you understand what it`s like to be a law student and what life entails after law school. Now, let`s dive in! When it`s finally time to apply to law school, think carefully about the factors that are important to your decision. You can go to school full-time or part-time. I created a spreadsheet to compare columns such as tuition, scholarship amount, school rank, orientation, clinic opportunities, cost of living in the area, and access to outdoor recreation. Law schools traditionally require an LSAT score, but increasingly, they are also accepting a GRE test score. In addition, you will need to collect letters of recommendation, write a personal statement, create a resume and submit your transcript. Identifying as an underrepresented minority can also give you a boost in the admissions process, as law schools are interested in building a diverse coalition of students. Here`s the secret to getting into law school: there`s no right way to get into law school! Students who excel in law school and become qualified and talented lawyers come from all walks of life and academia. Prioritize time spent with friends and family in the summer before your 1L year, because realistically, you won`t have much free time during the school year. Take care of doctor`s appointments, trips to the DMV (if you`ve moved to a new state), pay bills to pay automatically, and deal with any other personal issues that might distract you during the school year. If you feel the need to prepare, I recommend reading a 1L year book, speaking to 2L and 3L from their first year, and taking the pre-law or 0L introductory courses offered by your law school.

Much of law school is being understood as I go, but I wanted to share my own experiences and 1L lessons I`ve learned along the way to help you feel ready! While it can be great to participate in a pre-law track and get an introduction to the field of law before you even walk into the doors, it`s by no means a requirement. The conventional pre-law courses and majors are political science, philosophy, English, sociology, business administration and economics – but I also have a friend who graduated in classical piano, and he was leading our 1L grade class! In addition, you can check if your undergraduate institution has a pre-law advisor who can help you choose courses and advise you on how to apply. 4L Academy x Law School Life & Beyond Coaching Series – Amelia McLeod.
