My name is Roberto, I was born in Cagliari 62 years ago.
The loss of my father at age 11 prompted me to hobbies such as caving and diving, considered in those times quite extreme. Perhaps those choices are explained by the need for a statement of mold in a male world around too feminine.
These experiences led me to opt for a university course in line with my choices in life, in fact I graduated in 1976 in the geological sciences. Immediately after graduation, I worked in arming the military genius, and I have been active in both the Seveso that during the floods in Genoa and Lago Maggiore.
Back home, after a year of waiting, I was hired by SAMIM, now single national operator of metalliferous mining, here I have worked as a geologist assigned to the basement for thirty years.
I have worked in all the mines Italian then in production, both in the peninsula in Sardinia, working in mining research via surveys, but especially in the detection of cavities geostructural mining subsidence phenomena and to prevent collapse of the same.
The last assignment, prior to retirement, saw me in the position of Director of the work of mine Funtana Raminosa in Nuoro, that is the first mine who saw me coming and frightened young geologist thirty years earlier.

The use of the computer, then even if not required, the food value added professional career, I started using a 286 with a green phosphor and video programs like OTX, since Windows Office did not yet exist.
Certainly the opportunities in data processing, cataloging and storage of information and the ability to produce texts and drawings made ​​it increasingly necessary to use the computer all the duties connected with my work as a geologist. The modem for connection to the Internet were 56 K and it took a lot of patience to scroll through the first few pages of the Web After the 386, the 386 SX and the first Pentium, I found myself on the current computer to operate at speeds unimaginable a few first time.
Now that I’m retired, the computer is indispensable to me and allows me to communicate with loved ones around the world, in order to keep up to date and my collections of various objects, and allows me to keep in touch with the world of collecting.
Using the computer I realized that for me it is not very productive maniacally follow the continuous evolution of the programs and systems on the market, in fact I think everyone should use hardware and software necessary to their needs, without researching the latest trends and innovations in the market that probably never use.

La perdita di mio padre all’età di 11 anni mi spinse verso hobby come la speleologia e la subacquea, considerati in quei tempi abbastanza estremi. Forse quelle scelte trovano spiegazione nella necessità di una affermazione di stampo maschile in un mondo circostante troppo al femminile.

Queste esperienze mi portarono ad optare per un corso di studi universitari in linea con le mie scelte di vita, infatti mi laureai nel 1976 in scienze geologiche.

Subito dopo la laurea, ho prestato servizio militare nell’arma del Genio, ed ho operato attivamente sia nell’area di Seveso che nel corso delle alluvioni di Genova e del Lago Maggiore.

Tornato a casa, dopo un anno di attesa, venni assunto dalla SAMIM, società nazionale unico gestore del minerario metallifero, qui ho operato come geologo addetto al sottosuolo per trenta anni.

Ho lavorato in tutte le miniere italiane allora in produzione, sia nella penisola che in Sardegna, operando nella ricerca mineraria tramite sondaggi, ma soprattutto nel rilevamento geostrutturale delle cavità minerarie onde prevenire fenomeni di cedimento e crollo delle stesse.

L’ultimo incarico, precedente la pensione, mi ha visto nella posizione di Direttore dei lavori della miniera di Funtana Raminosa, nel Nuorese, cioè la prima miniera che mi vide arrivare giovane e spaurito geologo trenta anni prima.

L’utilizzo del computer, anche se allora non richiesto, alimentava di un valore aggiunto la carriera professionale, iniziai utilizzando un 286 con video a fosfori verdi e programmi tipo OTX, visto che Windows Office ancora non esisteva.

Certamente le possibilità offerte nell’elaborazione dei dati, nella catalogazione ed archiviazione delle informazioni e la possibilità di produrre testi e disegni rendeva sempre più necessario l’utilizzo del computer in tutte le incombenze connesse col mio lavoro di geologo.

I modem per il collegamento Internet erano  da 56 K e ci voleva tanta pazienza per scorrere le prime pagine del Web. Dopo il 386, il 386 SX ed il primo Pentium, mi sono trovato ad operare sugli attuali computer, con velocità inimmaginabili fino a qualche tempo prima.

Ora che sono in pensione, il computer mi è indispensabile e mi permette di comunicare con le persone care sparse nel mondo, nel mantenere aggiornate ed ordinate le mie collezioni di oggetti vari, e mi consente di tenere i contatti col mondo del collezionismo.

Utilizzando il computer ho capito che per me è poco produttivo seguire in maniera maniacale le continue evoluzioni dei programmi e dei sistemi in commercio, infatti credo che ciascuno dovrebbe utilizzare hardware e software necessari alle proprie esigenze, senza ricercare le ultime mode ed innovazioni del mercato che probabilmente non utilizzerà mai.
